The short version

When you click a link to a retailer on this site and buy something, we may receive a small commission from that retailer. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway. That commission is what keeps the site running and pays for the seed, soil, pots and grow lights we test with.

Windowsill Harvest is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

Other affiliate programs

We also take part in affiliate programs run by seed companies, grow light manufacturers and gardening retailers. The specific programs change over time; the rules below apply to all of them equally.

How to spot an affiliate link

• Every article that contains affiliate links carries a disclosure box above the first recommendation, not buried in the footer.
• Affiliate links and buttons are marked up with rel="sponsored nofollow" and open in a new tab.
• Comparison tables label the retailer for each "check price" button.

What a commission does not buy

• No paid placement. No brand can pay to appear in a guide, to rank higher in a comparison table, or to be called "best overall".
• No commission-led ranking. We do not order recommendations by payout rate. Where two products are close, we say so rather than inventing a winner.
• No hidden sponsorship. If a product was supplied free for review, the article says so in the same place as the affiliate disclosure.
• No removed criticism. Drawbacks stay in the article even when a product is one we link to.
